I can’t totally credit myself for these watercolours. Steph has Charles Van Sandwyk’s handmade book Sketches from the Dream Island of Birds which I totally found inspiring. I figure if I do enough of these, I’ll get myself familiar with the anatomy of birds, fish and other animals enough to do my own. I’ve made my own modifications, changing colours and making embellishments, but not sure if I can actually put them on cards to sell.

I’m pretty happy with this guy (above). I changed him quite a bit to give more character.

This guy (above) is one of my favourites. Somehow I managed to make him look slightly concerned at how ridiculous he looks.

Oh man, even though these look good, they don’t do the real thing justice. I was truly, deeply impressed by what you produced while here.

My very favourites are nos. 7, 8, and 11.

And though I hadn’t seen what you meant by hesitation in your own bird, I can totally see it here. Very interesting!!

The long, thin purple fish is too much you, in my opinion, to not take credit for. That expression makes him look very much like your own style.

And funnily, the second and fifth fish remind me of mom’s style. She used to have expressions like that.
