I have been waiting and waiting for this. At last!

The fall issue of Border Crossings is on news stands now – in its new format - larger, and a new design means spacious layouts and a stylin’ typeface.

This isn’t the only exciting part – this issue is the ‘Paint’ issue and focuses entirely on, well, PAINTING.

It couldn’t get any better. After a long day at the gallery, I have now put my feet up, poured myself a cold Bud Lime, and am taking in the smell of ‘hot off the press’.

Now, if you will excuse me, ahem, I’m reading.

Since 2005 I’ve been buying Border Crossings Magazine without fail. Four times a year I wait in anticipation for my next issue and all year round I pour over them, smelling the pages, running my hands over them, devouring articles and feasting my eyes on the imagery. I once heard John Brown call himself an ‘image slut’, and I think I am one too.

Today is my day off (I started a new job last week which requires work on Saturdays, so I have Sundays and Mondays off) and I found myself sifting through some old issues. Here are some of my favourite articles and artists:

These are beautiful photographs of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. I find them so painterly.

…who is on this month’s cover…I first heard of her in 2007 when, in her early 20′s I believe, her work got bought up by Saatchi. She’s a bit of a self-taught,- young, -provocative -and all the rest- artist but boy can she draw.

Hands down, one of the best artist interviews I have EVER read.

This photo doesn’t do her justice. I would LOVE to see her paintings in real life. They are deliciously skillful and beautiful. She is one of the most talented painters, and an extremely smart woman.

The most beautifully painted shrimp I have ever seen.

I can’t leave out Shary Boyle. “I hope the painting and the colours are seductive becuase I believe in putting things in the world that have pleasure in them”. (Border Crossings, issue 102 pg. 87)

I love the painterly-ness of these. I believe the oil on myler gives it that effect.

This is a detail. I looked at this spread for a looong time. This spring, I saw her collages in the AGO. Stuff I can’t peel my eyes away from.

This month’s issue.

A terrible photograph of a beautiful work.

I mean, really, you can think ‘gross’ all you want. But they are exquisitely rendered.
