<p style="text-align: left;">The fall issue of Border Crossings is on news stands now &#8211; in its <em>new format </em>- larger, and a new design means spacious layouts and a stylin&#8217; typeface.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">This isn&#8217;t the only exciting part &#8211; this issue is the &#8216;Paint&#8217; issue and focuses entirely on, well, <em>PAINTING. </em></p>
<p style="text-align: left;">It couldn&#8217;t get any better. After a long day at the gallery, I have now put my feet up, poured myself a cold Bud Lime, and am taking in the smell of <em>&#8216;hot off the press&#8217;</em>.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Now, if you will excuse me, ahem, I&#8217;m reading.</p>

<p>Since 2005 I&#8217;ve been buying <a href="http://www.bordercrossingsmag.com/">Border Crossings Magazine</a> without fail. Four times a year I wait in anticipation for my next issue and all year round I pour over them, smelling the pages, running my hands over them, devouring articles and feasting my eyes on the imagery. I once heard <a href="http://www.canadianart.ca/online/see-it/2008/02/14/john-brown/">John Brown</a> call himself an &#8216;image slut&#8217;, and I think I am one too.</p>
<p>Today is my day off (I started a new job last week which requires work on Saturdays, so I have Sundays and Mondays off) and I found myself sifting through some old issues. Here are some of my favourite articles and artists:</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<div id="attachment_236" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 310px"><a href="http://therese.neelands.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/imgp0317.jpg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-236" title="imgp0317" src="http://therese.neelands.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/imgp0317-300x225.jpg" alt="Susan Rothanberg" width="300" height="225" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Susan Rothanberg, Border Crossings</p></div>
<div id="attachment_237" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 310px"><a href="http://therese.neelands.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/imgp0318.jpg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-237" title="imgp0318" src="http://therese.neelands.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/imgp0318-300x225.jpg" alt="Etienne Zack" width="300" height="225" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Etienne Zack, Border Crossings</p></div>
<p>I loved this spread so much I had it open in my work space while I was painting. Yes, that&#8217;s linseed oil at the top.</p>
<div id="attachment_238" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 310px"><a href="http://therese.neelands.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/imgp0321.jpg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-238" title="imgp0321" src="http://therese.neelands.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/imgp0321-300x225.jpg" alt="Etienne Zack, Border Crossings" width="300" height="225" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Etienne Zack, Border Crossings</p></div>

<p>I finally saw Even Penny&#8217;s work in the &#8216;flesh&#8217; this spring at the AGO. Incredible.</p>

<p>These are beautiful photographs of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. I find them so painterly.</p>

<p>&#8230;who is on this month&#8217;s cover&#8230;I first heard of her in 2007 when, in her early 20&#8242;s I believe, her work got bought up by Saatchi. She&#8217;s a bit of a self-taught,- young, -provocative -and all the rest- artist but boy can she draw.</p>
<div id="attachment_247" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 235px"><a href="http://therese.neelands.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/imgp0339.jpg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-247" title="imgp0339" src="http://therese.neelands.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/imgp0339-225x300.jpg" alt="Border Crossings Issue 103" width="225" height="300" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Border Crossings Issue 103</p></div>

<p>This photo doesn&#8217;t do her justice. I would LOVE to see her paintings in real life. They are deliciously skillful and beautiful. She is one of the most talented painters, and an extremely smart woman.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<div id="attachment_250" class="wp-caption aligncenter" style="width: 235px"><a href="http://therese.neelands.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/imgp0342.jpg"><img class="size-medium wp-image-250" title="imgp0342" src="http://therese.neelands.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/imgp0342-225x300.jpg" alt="Tony Sherman" width="225" height="300" /></a><p class="wp-caption-text">Tony Scherman, Border Crossings</p></div>

<p style="text-align: left;">I can&#8217;t leave out Shary Boyle. &#8220;I hope the painting and the colours are seductive becuase I believe in putting things in the world that have pleasure in them&#8221;. (Border Crossings, issue 102 pg. 87)</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">
