I’ve made a new friend over the last month or so on my way to work at 9:30 some mornings. As I walk past Bickford Park, past the galloping dogs and twittering birds, I sometimes cross paths with a woman also heading to work, perhaps.

She walks with a jaunty step and smiles at me and sometimes says “Hello!” with a jaunty nod of her jaunty head. Sometimes she wears bright yellow rain boots, the kind you only find in picture books.

When we pass and greet, I smile all the way to the station. Sometimes I laugh all the way too, which must look funny to other passersby.

The last week or so has not been so serendipitous. I have missed her, and my step is not so jaunty. This morning, just as I was starting to worry, my Pass & Greet was there and we smiled.

When I see her, she is all flower bouquets, sunshine and rainbows.
